Nothing pulls a video game perfectly together than an awesome soundtrack. On occasion, the simple act of jumping on a Goomba in Super Mario Bros., facing down Sagat in Street Fighter II, or exploring the strange alien landscapes in Super Metroid – wouldn’t be the same without its mood-capturing audio counterpart.
And what’s fabulous about the video game medium, is that there is a B. P. Gulf Oil Spill (too soon?) worth of selections to choose from that are, well, Bit Hits! So, sit back as your friendly neighborhood music junkie dives into the gaming abyss, and pulls out some head-boppin’ jewels from the deep.
Now for today’s Bit Hits, I had originally planned something else to cover, but then a special birthday came up today – well yesterday, or whatever day this thing gets posted. Now this merry event belongs to a very influential person in the video game industry, and if I were not to comment on it, I just wouldn’t be comfortable in calling myself your trustful guide.

In just under a month E3 will again be underway. The speculation is starting to build as all the major gaming sites post rumors relating to what we might see at the show. Somehow, it doesn’t yet seem as exciting as last year. Something’s missing.
Most of my friends think that I’m crazy for this, but I am the type who enjoys all the pre-show hype. Last year by this time we had Kojima teasing games while rumors of motion controllers and a non-UMD PSP system set the gaming blogs ablaze. We knew a bit of what was coming but is was all vaguely hinted at. It was just enough to make me want to know and guess and want to see more.
This year, we already know that the 3DS is going to debut at the show, Zelda will make an appearance and we will see more Natal. The suspense isn’t there. This is when the big three are supposed to make me giddy and tell me that “huge” things are in store for next month, but I haven’t heard much from the companies. And Nintendo head-honcho Iwata even said in an interview that he didn’t want to hype E3 because he didn’t want fans to set unrealistic expectations, then be disappointed when the real announcements weren’t what the had anticipated.
Iwata has a point, but I love riding the E3 hype and speculation train as the final weeks before the show wind down. It just doesn’t feel like the E3 I love without it.
Btw. This was written on an iPad. I wanted to test out the wordpress app while showing the OBG blog some love.
