Inflatable Race Kart For Nintendo Wii

From the Internet to smart phones and those kick-ass shoes with the built-in wheelies, kids today have it so awesome. Of course typing this observation makes one soon sound like a crotchety old man, even as someone young as myself. Yet when you think about all the advantages our youthful counterparts have these days, it kinda makes you a bit jealous. And well, once I saw this inflatable race kart for the Nintendo Wii on Go Nintendo, I was back into crotchety-old-man mode. I’m sure later today I’ll be yelling at kids to get off my lawn.

Made by CTA Digital, a company that specializes in accessories for gaming and multimedia devices, has created this cool inflatable kart racer, for kids, with a working steering wheel that cradles the Wii Remote. The production of the inflatable kart was made in partnership with Kids Are Heroes, an organization that nicely supports kids doing remarkable feats to help make the world a better place. A cause any of us can get behind, for sure.

Overall, it’s pretty neat accessory, and one that I wish was available in adult sizes. Although, that kid in the picture seems to be my around my height… so perhaps there’s hope yet!

Sonic 4: Episode 1 And Other Awesome Links Of The Day

With virtual soapboxes left and right, it hard to tell sometimes who’s opinion bares insightful weight and whose’s doesn’t. But if you’re wise enough to catch on, the true test is to watch how people react to certain things.

And in this medium there is no truer test than everyone’s favorite blue boy – Sonic the Hedgehog. Now, not to say that this is a cross the board examination that is always correct, but if the person in question mentions the eye color of a cartoon hedgehog being the instant mark of fail for game that was shown mer days ago… lunacy off the starboard bound, captain!

If none of the above makes a heap of sense – good. Then you can ignore all that horse-hockey and I can tell you the exciting news: Sega is finally bringing us a new 2D Sonic game that from the title alone tells you how ambitious or down right crazy the developer might be.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode. Surprising is an understatement when addressing the tittle. Yet in no way is this some fake ruse to make you spit-take violently. (Sorry if that has already happened.)

Last week the Sega Blognick unwrapped the real name to Project Needlemouse by showing a more in-depth teaser for the game, which featured a brief snippet of game play. Albeit only 3 seconds of it.

From the looks of things, a rather short one, it strikes a close appearance to the tradition Sonic games form the 16-bit era, but with a shiny high definition current console technology spin. Being a fan (and I’m sure Jay is too) of New Super Mario Brothers Wii, I am quite fond of this type of treatment. So no worries here.

We will have to wait for later videos tell how the direction of the game play is going to be, but Sega has mentioned in the initial press release that the game will be inspired by those classic Sonic games on the Genesis. In fact this game picks up right where Sonic & Knuckles leaves off and will begin a new grander story told in episodes.

Ah’ that’s right, that whole “Episode 1” moniker at the end of the title. Well, if you haven’t figured it out yet, this game, for now, is a digital download experience for PlayStation Network, Xbox Live Arcade, Nintendo WiiWare, and a secret platform to be mentioned later come this Summer. (Leaks already have this pinned down as perhaps being the iphone.)

The plan from Sega is to release the game in episodic chunks, and although there has been no official statement on the size of each “chunk,” word around the web is that they will be as long as a full length Genesis Sonic game.

All this spiky blue hedgehog talk is making me want to plunge back into Sonic’s 1 – 3 & K, but first, as the title of this post promises, some awesome links of the day.

Speaking of another famous face in the video game fandom, Legend of Zelda creator Shigeru Miyamoto loosens his lips about what he is currently working on. Next Zelda game, heard about it. Some new motion plus game, boring. A new console from Nintendo is coming soon? Say whaaat?

Old Electronic Gaming Monthly might be gone, but Steve Harris, once former and now turned current owner of EGM, is set on bring the gaming publication back anew.  Check out what Mr. Harris has in store by checking out the recent press statement on the EGM Now website.

Who doesn’t love the Angry Video Game Nerd? Well maybe the developers of those games he swears at. But hey it’s all in good sport! (Not really.) Anyway, let’s check in with the Angry Video Game Nerd as he takes on Little Red Hood.

Well I’d love to stick around but I’ve got to speed, Keed! (Yeah, I wonder face palm that last line too.)

A New Ridge Racer Game? And Other Awesome Links Of The Day

Yes after the last Ridge Racer for the PSP there will be a new Ridge Racer game, but not for the platform you think. Announced today was Ridge Racer Accelerated for the Apple iPhone. If there wasn’t any more given reason to hate people with iPhones, this might make me want to instantly chain-whip anyone I see that flips one out. But something is better than nothing for this really awesome arcade racing series from Namco-Bandai.

In other awesome links of the day action: are Sony’s three big pillars of 2010, Andy Richter from The Tonight Show admits he was snubbed by the Video Game Awards for best voice acting performance, Dan “Shoe” Hsu’s disturbing tale of how his Xbox Live account was stolen, and Nintendo trademarking “Zii.” Oh lordy! Sounds like some juicy stuff to read!

Nintendo Has No Plans to Bring New Wii Colors Stateside. Supposedly.

GameDaily recently contacted a Nintendo rep about the possibility of the Wii with the brand-new black color scheme hitting the States.

The answer, is a no:

“no plans to have other colors of Wii in the U.S.”

There it is, straight from Nintendo.  It seems that some people are upset.  Of course, this statement means that there are currently “no plans,” that the rep knows of.  However, if we take a look at Nintendo’s history with their systems, it’s hard to imagine them not releasing at least one with a different look.

Even if Nintendo does have plans that their rep knows of, we all know that the big N is Notorious for being able to keep secrets from the gaming public.  They like to be the ones who announce their new stuff. Aside from that, they don’t want people who learn about the new color to sit and decide to wait while leaving the current model on store shelves.

The sales have slowed down quite a bit since launch, and although they do continue to sell more consoles than the other guys, they don’t like seeing those numbers drop.

Maybe they will announce it at their fall media summit.

Wii Sports Resort is a Hit in Japan

Wii Sports Resort seems to be doing great in Japan.  The game has sold over 350,000 copies during its first four days in retail.

Hopefully, this is an indication of what may become of Wii Motion Plus.  Some reports say that the game’s release may have even had an effect on hardware sales, as those are up to 21,790 over last week’s 19,386.

Now, if only Nintendo would begin to create Wii Remotes with built-in Motion Plus tech. We’d be set.
